Dr. David Inouye is a researcher at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (in Gothic, near Crested Butte), where he has worked for 54 years. He is also Professor Emeritus in the Biology Department at the University of Maryland and serves on Boards of the Hummingbird Conservation Networks, North American Pollinator Protection Campaign, Endangered Species Coalition, and Paonia's Citizens for a Healthy Community. He helped author the forthcoming reports on establishing a national monitoring plan for native bees. His long-term research was featured in the April 2023 issue of National Geographic Magazine, and a short documentary about his research with his son and daughter-in-law was featured at the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival and Crested Butte Film Festival this year. He has been banding and studying hummingbirds for decades at RMBL and also bands hummingbirds at his house near Paonia. He will talk about research on the wildflowers that support pollinators and the work being done on hummingbirds at RMBL.
