Carol Patterson will be giving an illustrated talk titled "Birds in Native American cultures in the Southwest."

Carol is a professional archaeologist and rock art specialist in Montrose. She has studied and evaluated many rock art panels throughout the Southwest, including the important petroglyph site in Shavano Valley, just west of Montrose.  Rock art remains one of the great mysteries of the West.  Carol has made a career of learning about rock art and explaining its meanings.  "It is not just art for art's sake," she says, "but was designed for communication and can be read as a system of picture writing."  She will show examples and talk about how Native American cultures in the Southwest depicted birds in rock art.

There is no charge and the public is invited.

Location 22
Wednesday August 26 at 7:00 pm in the Centennial Room (former City Council Chambers) on Centennial Plaza (Uncompahgre Ave between Main St.and South 1st) in Montrose.
