The annual election and program will follow dinner. We will have a brief presentation about BCAS accomplishments and introduce the BCAS Board members, followed by election of new Board members.
Our keynote speaker, Christopher Preston, author of Tenacious Beasts, Wildlife Recoveries that Change How We Think About Animals, will present a message of hope as he discusses animal recovery success stories. Tenacious Beasts, Wildlife Recoveries that Change How We Think About Animals is winner of the High Plains International Book Award 2024 (non-fiction), First Honorable Mention in the Rachel Carson Environmental Book Awards 2024, and was included in the New Yorker’s Best Books of 2023.
Preston is a professor of philosophy at the University of Montana in Missoula. He has Colorado connections, as he attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins for his Master’s degree and has family in Denver. Preston will share success stories of humpback and sperm whales, bears, wolves, peregrine falcons and several other species, including a discussion of the “messy business” of killing barred owls to support spotted owl recovery. Preston suggests that species recovery offers a unique chance to change the way we think about animals.

Volunteers Needed
We are looking for some volunteers who can drive injured raptors to rehab centers. Usually the bird is in a pet kennel and just needs a ride. Nothing hard about it. Please contact Bruce Ackerman at
